When I was 18 and at uni, I had a leather bomber jacket which I bought from a vintage store in Brighton, and I wore it… to death. I mean, this was my go-to jacket for everything for the next decade or so. Since I wore that jacket out, I have been searching for a new leather jacket that I can feasibly wear in my mid-30s without looking like a knock-off watch salesman down the market.
Enter Angel Jackets. Their website promises “luxury you can afford”, and that’s certainly a good way to get the attention of this broke-ass dad. Their website has a TONNE of jacket options. I mean, absolutely loads. The drop-down menu reads like the breakdown in the theme tune to Fairly Odd Parents – brown jacket, black jacket, hooded jacket, suede jacket, quilted jacket, leather coat, leather vest, tuxedo. They do men’s jackets, women’s jackets, heated jackets, leather gloves. It’s a veritable cornucopia of leather (and non-leather) wares. I mean, just check out their full range of men’s jackets here!
And then I saw it. A grey leather bomber jacket, with one of those built in removable hoodies. It looked exactly like the one I had as an 18-year-old punk rocker with a mohawk. Angel jackets can’t grow my head of hair back for the mohawk, but they WERE kind enough to send me one of these bomber jackets to review.
It’s satisfyingly weighty. That was my first thought. Like, reassuringly so, which lets you know it’s pretty decent quality to start with. It fits nicely, and the leather feels nice to the touch too. This particular jacket has some nice aging towards the edges of straps etc. which gives it that worn in look (that’s a good thing), and there’s even a nice inner pocket for your phone so you don’t have that ruining the lines of your outfit with a phone bulging out of your jeans. My belly ruins that line anyway, I don’t need my phone making things worse.
This particular jacket is currently selling at £169 (was £230 at some point apparently), which isn’t too bad if I get the amount of wear out of it that I got out of my last one! It’s a step up from your Primani leather jackets price-wise, but it also feels a lot nicer and will probably last longer too.
