Work-from-home guidance will return, Covid health certificates will become mandatory in large venues and mask rules will be extended to combat the Omicron variant as Boris Johnson announced a move to his Plan B to tackle coronavirus.
You might be wondering what else has changed since the last restrictions were lifted, so here they are.
From Friday 10 December, face coverings are mandatory for most indoor public venues including religious places, the theatre, cinema, and public transport.
You will not be required to wear facemasks in pubs and restaurants or in places like the gym where it is “not practical to wear them.”
People are being advised to work from home “if they can” from Monday 13 December.
Parliament is currently deciding on whether or not people will need to have an NHS Covid Pass which will show their vaccination status or a recent negative Lateral Flow Test (LFT) test to gain entry to nightclubs, indoor seated venues of more than 500 people, unseated outdoor venues with more than 4,000 people and any venue with more than 10,000 people.
The government also want people to take an LFT test before anyone enters a “high risk setting” such as crowded places and “involving people you wouldn’t normally come into contact with, or when visiting a vulnerable person”.
In his talk on Wednesday evening, the Prime Minister warned it is clear the new strain is “growing much faster” than Delta and cases of Omicron could be doubling every two or three days as he strengthened England’s rules to slow the spread of Covid-19.
