Dove is offering $5,000 grants for dads without access to paid paternity leave

Paternity leave has been in and out the headlines across the globe for the last few years due to a shift in focus from new mums to the whole family when a child is born.

It certainly seems like here in the UK, the government are taking an age to sort out a paternity leave policy that actually benefits new dads, but in meantime, one company is taking control and offering a grant to dads who do not have access to paid paternity leave in the States.

Dove Men+Care has started a Paternity Leave Fund in an effort to raise over $1 million for dads across America over the next two years according to their website.

The grant will provide dads who don’t have access to paternity leave with $5,000 so they can stay at home with their new baby.

Dove says, “Working dads shouldn’t have to choose between their children and a paycheck—because when they take paternity leave, it benefits families, workplaces and communities.”

As part of the grant application process, it’s required that dads sign a pledge committing to helping companies provide paternity leave to new dads.

According to CNN, other big companies like Starbucks & Walmart have created new family leave policies specifically aimed at working fathers in the last year.

It seems that these companies are a step ahead of the government (both in the UK & US) when it comes to realising how crucial paternity leave is for families.

Great work Dove Men+Care for leading the way.
