Last week, I met my new housekeeper. My live-in caretaker. We are together at home all-day, every day, and my wife is actually thrilled at how close we have become.
I’m talking about the eufy Omni E28 Robot Vacuum. It’s more than that though – it’s also a mop, and a portable deep cleaner.
Why do I need this?
I am a dad of 2 young boys, a 2 year old cockapoo, and a wife who makes more mess and sheds more hair than the rest of them combined. Our house is chaos, continually – every evening is a different kids club, every day my wife and I are working full time, and somewhere in amongst that we walk the dog and he LOVES a muddle puddle. So cleaning the house happens less regularly than we would like. The constant bits on the tiled kitchen floor were getting to me. Chewed up loo rolls (by the dog, not the kids) all over the rug. It was all becoming a bit overwhelming.
Enter the eufy Omni E28. I’m not even joking when I say that I think this is the best bit of kit we have brought into our house for years. When we leave the house for the school run, or to go to an U7’s football tournament, we open the eufy app, press “Go”, and it just does its thing while we are out. We come home to hoovered, swept and mopped floors, daily.
I was a bit dubious about how well these machines would actually clean, to be perfectly honest. I thought they might be just a bit of a gimmick. If you are of the same mind, then let me set your mind at ease.
How does it perform?
The hoover is excellent. There are rotating flexible brush heads that sweep stuff into the path of the hoover. That hoover is rated at 20,000 Pa – I have no idea what that is in old money, but it sucks things up, both on hard floors and carpets alike. The mop is on a roller, and automatically retracts when the robot goes onto carpet so it doesn’t get them wet, then comes down again for hard floors. The HydroJet system cleans the mop a whopping 360 times per minute, and then applies 1.5kg of downward pressure to lift trickier marks on the floor.
The robot uses a camera on the front to track and map your home, and avoid things like stray socks or Lego on the floor, and it even has lights to help it “see” in darker conditions.
And the best bit? When it’s finished its rounds, it docks itself back in the station, where the dust gets emptied, the dirty water gets emptied, and the mop gets washed with enough heat to kill the bacteria and avoid smells. Even the brushes are auto-detangling, perfect for pets and wives! The base unit also lifts apart to give you a dedicated spot cleaning tool, complete with hose and brush attachment, for when there are particularly stubborn marks you just can’t shift.
Price
The eufy Omni E28 comes in at £999 currently on their website, which is on the steeper side, but to pay a cleaner to come in and hoover and mop every day for a year would cost you closer to £7,500. Comparatively, this is an absolute steal.
Conclusion
This clever little robot has honestly been a game changer in our house, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to any parents who are looking for a little help around a busy house!
