Plans to stop children from having free school lunches have been axed.
Schools minister, Nick Gibb said the government would,
Retain the existing provision, having listened very carefully to the views of parents.
The Tories proposed the plan in their recent manifesto that restricted free lunches to those children who come from lower income families.

Mr. Gibb went on to say,
We have listened very carefully to the views of the sector on the proposal to remove infant free school meals and we have decided that it is right to retain the existing provision.
Since failing to win the majority, back in June, the Tories have abandoned a number of proposals they initially set out, suggesting that their more ‘controversial’ policies are being rethought and the abolishment of free lunches was certainly controversial; not just to parents, but also those schools who had gone to great expense and effort to improve kitchen facilities in order to deliver the introduction of free school lunches in 2014. What a waste of money that would have been if they then removed the free school lunches!
The Tories had planned to replace free school lunches with free school breakfasts claiming that this would have greater nutritional benefits to pupils and save money.

Universal infant free school meals ensure children receive a nutritious meal during the day. It saves hardworking families hundreds of pounds a year and it boosts educational achievement, especially among children from the most disadvantaged backgrounds.
It seems like sometimes, just sometimes, the politicians that run our country do find some sense after all!
