Klingon to your Star Trek youth in Spocktober

Star Trek Day

We are now in Spocktober, and many dads will feel that warm wave of Star Trek nostalgia wash over them. Do you remember settling in front of the TV at teatime to lose yourself in the adventures of James T Kirk, Spock, Bones, Sulu and the rest in the original series? Or were you more of a Picard, Riker and Data fan from Star Trek: The Next Generation?

Loose Dads Podcast

Either way, Spocktober is the perfect opportunity to celebrate these immersive series developed by the legendary Gene Roddenberry. And, now you’re a dad, it’s the perfect opportunity to share these happy memories of your formative years with your kids too. It’s a great way to klingon to your youth. Ahem. Sorry.

What is Spocktober?

The cultural phenomenon of Star Trek first hit TV screens in 1966 and has rarely left them since. It brought us such iconic characters as the pointy eared Spock, originally played by Leonard Nimoy This is why, every year, Star Trek fans take the full month of October to pay homage to a show that meant so much to so many people. A show that drove real cultural changes and a show that informed so much of the sci-fi that we still love to this day.

Star Trek and its different incarnations never age, but rather remain as relevant as ever today. And you can be sure that Trekkies across the world will bingewatch the series and movies across the month, recalling the times they first watched the series that changed their lives.

New ways to celebrate Star Trek

Excitingly, there is a new way to celebrate Spocktober. Bandai has released a range of figurines and toys that will transport you straight into the world of the the U.S.S Enterprise.

The U.S.S. Enterprise

In fact, the Enterprise is one of the figurines you can get your hands on. The 21” highly detailed replica features iconic lights, sounds and command phrases from Captain Kirk himself. It also comes with a display stand. Mind you, will you actually ever display it in the stand or will you spend your time flying it around the house? Imagine the fun you could have with the kids, piloting the most recognisable ship in the Star Fleet across your living room!

Original Series Phaser

Star Trek Phaser

When it comes to iconic weapons in TV history, the phaser has to be up there, right? Imagine you and your child are Kirk and Spock, exploring some strange new planet when suddenly a space monster (played by your other half?) confronts you. It is frothing at the mouth, possibly angry about you dropping your dirty washing in the middle of the floor. What do you do?

You pick your favoured setting – full, stun or overload – and you take the beast on. What a great family bonding experience. Although you might want to buy your other half flowers to make up for it. You know, if you want to live long and prosper.

Each figure comes with accessories and its own display stand.
