Part 1: Consultation, Design & Measuring Visits
The Start of the Final Chapter
After ten long months of renovation chaos — we’re talking dust in every corner, paint-stained hoodies, and more weekends spent with a hammer than with the kids — we were finally approaching the finish line. The kitchen was in, the flooring was down, the walls had been painted (twice, because we changed our minds on the shade of grey), and the house was starting to feel like a home.
But there was one final touch missing — something that would pull it all together, something that made it feel finished. For us, that was shutters. I’d always loved the look — clean lines, timeless style, and a practical way to control the light (and, let’s be honest, hide the fact that the kids never close the curtains properly).
After some searching and recommendations, we found Shutters Up — and from the very first phone call, we knew we were onto a winner.
A Consultation That Actually Feels Personal
From the moment we got in touch, the team at Shutters Up were professional, friendly, and clearly knew their stuff. They didn’t rush anything. Instead, they took the time to really understand what we wanted — the look, the function, and how the shutters would fit with our family life.
They walked us through all the different styles, finishes, and colours, explaining what would work best for each room. In the living room, they suggested full-height shutters to maximise the light during the day while keeping things private at night. In the bedrooms, we went for tier-on-tier, so we could let light in up top but keep the bottom closed for a bit of privacy, especially when I’m stretching in the mornings….
They even considered practicalities I hadn’t thought of — like how the windows opened, where the handles sat, and how the frames would align with our slightly uneven walls. Nothing felt like a generic sales pitch. It was personal, thoughtful, and completely stress-free.

Precision Meets Professionalism
The measuring visit was just as impressive. The team arrived right on time, worked efficiently, and were meticulous with every detail. They didn’t just measure once — they double-checked everything to make sure the fit would be perfect. You could tell these guys had done this hundreds of times before.
And what I really appreciated was how clear they were about timelines. They set expectations from the start — no vague promises, just honest communication. As someone who’s been through months of “we’ll be there next week” from tradesmen, this was refreshing.
When they left, I genuinely felt excited. We could finally see the light at the end of the renovation tunnel — and it was coming through a beautifully crafted set of shutters.
So, now the shutters are on order and we’re waiting patiently for them to arrive… Stay tuned for part 2!
