Halloween Films for Kids

 (12)

Halloween films for kids are some of the best parts about dark autumnal nights!  Making sure that they are spooked out but not too scared is all of the fun of Halloween!

When choosing films for them, its really important to make sure they are watching movies in a suitable age bracket, and while a movie might say PG, that doens’t mean it might not spook your kids!

Here is our list of some of the best Halloween films for kids that will have them giggling and maybe covering their eyes for some parts!

Hocus Pocus (1993)

This cult classic tells the story of three witches who are resurrected after 300 years to exact revenge and begin a reign of terror after Max, a young boy who moves to Salem with his family, lights a cursed Candle of Black Flame.

Featuring Hollywood icons Bette Middler and Sarah Jessica Parker, this is a really wonderful movie that all the family can enjoy! Common sense recommends that this movie is ages 10 and up.

Scooby Doo ((1969-Present)

Scooby dooby doo where are you is all you will be singing to yourself after watching this lovely family-friendly show!  Join Scooby, Fred, Daphne, Velma, and Shaggy on one of their numerous adventures working out who is wearing the mask this time!

Paranorman (2012)

This movie may be unsuitable for really young children, and I advise ages 10 and up!

It tells a tale of a young boy, Norman Babckock who sees ghosts and has to help resolve a centuries-old curse on his town.  It shows that adults can be scared much like children, and holding grudges against those who wronged you is never the answer.

Coraline (2009)

An adventurous girl walks through a secret door in her new home and discovers a strangely idealized version of her frustrating home, but it has sinister secrets.

This is a particularly spooky movie so it is reccomended for children 10 and up!

The Corpse Bride (2005)

This beautiful stop motion movie tells the tale of a young man with stage fright on the day of his wedding, who unwittingly marries a corpse he stumbles upon in the woods.  Chaos ensues, but there is a reason why this movie has the cult following that it does.

Suitable for ages 7 and up.

The Witches (1990)

This movie in fairness is really quite scary!  The amazing Anjelica Huston as the Grand High Witch pulling off her skin to reveal her true form is terrifying.  BUT it is a fantastic movie that really should by ages 10 and up.

Casper (1995)

Carrigan Crittenden hires paranormal expert Dr. James Harvey to exorcise the ghosts from her mansion. The situation changes when Harvey’s daughter befriends Casper, a friendly ghost.

This very sweet movie is family-friendly and a cult classic at that.

Monsters Inc (2001)

In Monstropolis, best friends Sulley and Mike are the top scarers working at the Monsters, Inc. However, their lives are hugely disrupted when a human girl enters their world.

This fan favourite Disney movie spawned its sequal, Monsters High.  A movie you can watch with all the children.
