In one of the shock transfer stories of of the year, the BBC swooped for the England captain and viewers tuned in to see Harry Kane on CBeebies last night.
Kane, 29, read ‘The Lion Inside’ by Rachel Bright and illustrated by Jim Field on the BBC’s CBeebies Bedtime Story. The Tottenham man join a star-studded list of names to have delivered a story.
Why was Harry Kane on CBeebies?
If it’s part of your kids’ nighttime routine, you might have ben surprised to see Harry Kane on CBeebies, but the Three Lions skipper did so for a good reason. It was World Mental Health Day and, as the man himself explained, it is “a story about confidence, self-belief and a shy little mouse who sets out on a journey to find his roar.”
Kane revealed in his introduction that “I don’t always feel like being brave” when on the pitch the expectation on him to score goals. The footballer then went on to dedicate the story to anyone who had always wanted to do something but were worried that it would be too scary.

It also came on the same day that the Spurs star launched the Harry Kane Foundation. Its aim is to normalise the conversation around mental health, reduce the stigma and encourage positive habits.

What was the reaction like?
The reaction to Harry Kane on CBeebies was very positive. It’s fair to say that the striker is more comfortable talking with his feet in public. However, many viewers praised him for stepping out of his comfort zone. As an idol for many children, having Kane talk about mental health and its importance is something to celebrate.
